Volleyball Remains Perfect in NAC Play with Saturday Sweep

CASTINE, Maine –  Maine Maritime Academy volleyball defeated SUNY Canton and Husson University, 3-0 in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action inside of Smith Gymnasium on Saturday. 

With the pair of victories the Mariners improve to 17-6 overall and 4-0 in the conference, while the Kangaroos finished the day going 1-1 to improve to 11-12 overall and 2-1 in the NAC and Husson falls to 5-15 on the season and 2-2 in conference play. Maine Maritime returns to action on Tuesday, October 23 when they host Colby College for a non-conference matchup at 7:00 pm.

Maine Maritime Academy 3 – SUNY Canton 0 (25-17, 25-12, 25-13)

The Mariners hit .600 percent in the first set to cruise to the three-set victory.

Rachel Melampy (Duxbury, Mass.) led the Mariners with a match-high 12 kills, and also added eight digs and an ace, Jessica D'Auria (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) added eight kills, while hitting .667 percent, five aces, and two digs and Maria Perez (San Juan, Puerto Rico) led all players with 10 digs, while chipping in with two assists. Sydney Adams (Trumbull, Conn.) recorded a match-high 21 assists, while also contributing five digs, four kills, an ace and a block.

Marissa Ixtlahuac led the Kangaroos with six kills and two digs, while Jenna Roat had a team-high nine digs to go along with two aces and Peyton Robinson tallied a team-best 14 assists, while chipping in with five digs, two aces and a kill.

Maine Maritime Academy 3 – Husson University 0 (25-13, 25-14, 25-12)

Melampy led the Mariners once again with 17 kills hitting .536 percent, and 13 digs, while adding three aces and an assist. Perez contributed eight digs and two assists, Adams led all players with 23 assists and chipped in with seven digs, five kills, an ace and a block.

Riley Mooers led the Eagles with three kills, Kate Woods had a team-best seven digs, and Hanna Hembrow led Husson with five assists.
