CASTINE, Maine -- Maine Maritime Academy's Alexa Cacacie (Manahawkin, N.J.) has been named the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Volleyball Player of the Week, while Maria Perez (San Juan, Puerto Rico) has earned NAC Defensive Player of the Week Honors and Rachel Melampy (Duxbury, Mass.) has been tabbed NAC Rookie of the Week.
Cacacie earned Tournament MVP Honors after leading the Mariners to their third-straight NAC Championship. The junior tallied 24 kills, five blocks, four digs and two aces on the weekend, hitting .575 percent. The middle hitter tallied 10 kills, three digs, two aces and a block while hitting .500 percent in the Mariners' 3-0 win over Husson in the semifinals. She followed that up with a match-high 14 kills, four blocks, and a dig in the Championship match against SUNY Canton. Cacacie hit an impressive .636 in the championship match.
Perez helped lead the Mariners to their third-straight NAC Championship with 28 digs (4.67) and an assist over Championship Weekend. Perez had a match-high 16 digs (5.33 per set) in the Mariners' 3-0 victory over Husson in the semifinals, and followed that up with a team-best 12 digs (4.0 d/s) in the 3-0 win over SUNY Canton for the NAC Title.
NAC Rookie of the Year, Melampy earns her seventh Rookie of the Week honors, and fifth in a row, after the Mariners won their third consecutive NAC Championship. Melampy tallied ten digs and three kills in the championship match to help Maine Maritime win the title in three sets.
