CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy's Sydney Adams (Trumbull, Conn.) has been named the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Volleyball Player of the Week, Maria Perez (San Juan, Puerto Rico) has been named the NAC Defensive Player of the Week for the fourth time this season and Rachel Melampy (Duxbury, Mass.) has been tabbed NAC Rookie of the Week for the third time this season.
Adams was impressive in the Mariners' 3-0 week, totaling 88 assists (9.78 a/s), 14 kills (1.56 k/s), 14 digs (1.56 d/s), six aces and two blocks over nine sets. The junior setter tallied 14 assists, six digs, five kills and two aces in the Mariners 3-0 win over UMaine-Machias on Tuesday. In Maine Maritime's doubleheader against UMaine-Fort Kent Adams tallied 37 assists in the 3-1 win, while also contributing eight digs, seven kills, and two aces and followed that up with 37 assists in the Mariners' 3-0 victory over the Bengals in the second match while also recording two kills, two aces and two blocks. In that match Adams tied her previous career-high for assists in a three-set match (37).
Perez posted outstanding performances in the Mariners 3-0 week, totaling 52 digs over eight sets (6.50 d/s), three assists and an ace. Against UMaine-Machias, Perez scooped up seven digs in one set, while also tallying two assists. In the first game of the doubleheader against UMaine-Fort Kent Perez recorded 28 digs, one ace and one assist and followed that up with 17 digs in the Mariners 3-0 victory over the Bengals.
Melampy helped lead the Mariners to a 3-0 week totaling 42 kills (4.20 k/s), 25 digs (2.50 d/s), eight aces and three blocks. In the Mariners 3-0 win over UMaine-Machias the freshman led all players with eight kills, and also contributed seven digs and two aces. In the Mariners' 3-1 victory over UMaine-Fort Kent, the outside hitter led all players once again with 14 kills and registered a double-double with 10 digs to go along with four aces and two blocks. In the Mariners' 3-0 win over the Bengals, Melampy tallied a career-high 20 kills, to go with eight digs, two aces and a block.
