Adams Becomes All-Time Assist Leader as Mariners Complete Saturday Sweep

BIDDEFORD, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy volleyball's Sydney Adams (Trumbull, Conn.) became the program's all-time assist leader as the Mariners defeated Saint Joseph's College of Maine, 3-0 and the University of New England, 3-1 on Saturday at the Harold Alfond Forum.

Adams surpassed Jennifer Dixon to become the Mariners' all-time assist leader, and currently has 2,459 career assists.

With the victories the Mariners improve to 2-1 on the season and will return to action next Saturday, September 7 at Southern Maine, where they will face WPI and the Huskies beginning at 2:00 pm.

Maine Maritime 3 – Saint Joseph's College of Maine 0 (25-15, 25-15, 25-22)

Alexa Cacacie
(Manahawkin, N.J.) led the Mariners with 11 kills, five aces, a dig and a block, while Avery O'Neal (Burbank, Calif.) tallied a match-high 10 digs to go along with eight kills, six assists and two aces. Maria Perez (San Juan, Puerto Rico) contributed nine digs and three assists and Jessica D'Auria (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) added eight kills, two aces and a dig. Adams tallied a match-high 28 assists to go with seven kills, four digs and a block.

Sarah Quinn led the Monks with five kills, four blocks, three digs, and an ace. Hannah Holden led the team with 11 assists and six digs, and also contributed a kill.

Maine Maritime 3 – University of New England 1 (22-25, 25-17, 25-21, 25-20)

D'Auria led the Mariners with a double-double, tallying a career-high 19 kills and 17 digs, while also adding three blocks, Cacacie tallied 16 kills, four blocks, three digs and three aces, and Perez led all players with 25 digs, and also added five assists and an ace. O'Neal chipped in with 10 digs, five kills, four aces and an assist, while Adams tallied a match-high 45 assists, to rank second all-time in MMA history in a four-set match, nine digs, four kills, three aces and three blocks.

Molly Camelo led the Nor'easters with 10 kills, and added 17 digs and two assists, teammate Katie Marsh led the team with 21 digs, and contributed a pair of assists, and Sydney Christiansen tallied 32 assists, eight digs, and three kills.
