GORHAM, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy volleyball picked up a pair of non-conference victories on Saturday, defeating WPI 3-1 and Southern Maine 3-0, inside of Hill Gymnasium.
With the victories the Mariners improve to 4-1 overall and will return to action next Saturday, September 14th at Merchant Marine for the 10th Annual Maritime Classic.
Maine Maritime Academy 3 – WPI 1 (25-22, 25-17, 22-25, 25-20)
Rachel Melampy (Marshfield, Mass.) led the Mariners with a double-double of 22 kills and 12 digs, and also added two blocks and an ace, Jessica D'Auria (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) tallied a double-double of her own with 13 kills and 11 digs, and contributed a match-high four aces and Alexa Cacacie (Manahawkin, N.J.) recorded 10 kills, two aces, two digs and a block.
Maria Perez (San Juan, Puerto Rico) tallied 14 digs and Avery O'Neal (Burbank, Calif.) added 11 digs, four assists, and a kill and Sydney Adams (Trumbull, Conn.) led all players with 41 assists, and added seven digs, three aces and two kills.
Sarah Kwatinetz led WPI with 10 kills, Suela Miloshi and Catherine Reynolds each contributed 12 digs and Reynolds added a team-high 32 assists.
Maine Maritime Academy 3 – Southern Maine 0 (25-19, 25-21, 25-19)
Melampy recorded another double-double with 17 kills and 12 digs to go along with two aces and a block, D'Auria contributed 14 kills, seven digs and an ace and Perez led the match with 14 digs, while also tallying two assists. Adams had a match-high 42 assists, to go with eight digs, four blocks and three kills.
Kacey Foerster led the Huskies with 10 kills and nine digs, while teammate Sophie Lindsay contributed a team-best 21 assists.
