Mariners Blank Bengals

CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy volleyball defeated UMaine-Fort Kent 3-0 and 3-0 in a non-conference doubleheader inside of Smith Gymnasium on Friday night.

The Mariners improve to 12-3 overall with the victories, while Fort Kent falls to 9-8 on the season. Maine Maritime returns to action tomorrow, Saturday, October 5 at Colby College for a non-conference match at 5:00 pm.

Maine Maritime Academy 3 – UMaine-Fort Kent 0 (25-19, 25-21, 25-19)

Rachel Melampy (Marshfield, Mass.) led the Mariners with a double-double of 15 digs and 12 kills, Alexa Cacacie (Manahawkin, N.J.) added 10 kills, three aces, two blocks and an assist and Avery O'Neal (Burbank, Calif) contributed 10 digs, seven kills, three and aces. Sydney Adams (Trumbull, Conn.) tallied a match-high 34 assists, to go along with six digs, three aces, two blocks and a kill.

Heather Harness led the Bengals with 10 kills, and added four digs and two blocks, Kaylee Neher added 13 digs and two kills and Beatriz Garrido contributed 11 assists, seven digs and an ace.

Maine Maritime Academy 3 – UMaine-Fort Kent (25-9, 25-23, 25-22)

Melampy led all players with 20 kills and tallied another double-double with 11 digs and an ace, O'Neal contributed 12 digs, two kills, two blocks, an ace and an assist and Ali O'Neil (Northwood, N.H.) added 10 digs and an ace. Adams led all players with 37 assists, and contributed four aces, three digs and two kills and Cacacie chipped in with nine kills, four digs, an ace, an assist and a block.

Neher led the Bengals with four kills, seven digs, and an assist, Harness chipped in with 12 digs, three kills, an ace and a block and Rachel Nance recorded 10 digs, three kills and an ace.
