Volleyball Earns First-Ever Straight-Set Win Over Colby

WATERVILLE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy volleyball picked up a 3-0 (25-17, 25-19, 25-15) victory over Colby College in non-conference action at Wadsworth Gymnasium on Saturday.

With the program's first-ever straight-set win over Colby, the Mariners improve to 13-3 on the season, while the Mules fall to 5-12 overall.

The Mariners controlled the first set, jumping out to an 8-2 lead early and cruised to the 25-17 set win. The Mules hung with the Mariners in the second set, until the visitors used five-straight points to claim the second set, 25-19. Maine Maritime maintained the lead for the majority of the third set, and scored six-unanswered points late in the set to claim the 25-15 set win and the match.

Rachel Melampy (Marshfield, Mass.) led the Mariners with 11 kills and eight digs, while Jessica D'Auria (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) tallied 10 kills, two digs, two aces and a block and Avery O'Neal (Burbank, Calif.) led all players with 14 digs, and also contributed eight kills, two assists and an ace. Sydney Adams (Trumbull, Conn.) led the match with 28 assists, and chipped in with six digs, two aces and two kills.

Natalie Simonton led the Mules with three kills, Julia Hutchings contributed a team-high six digs and Morgan Selby added a team-best 12 assists.
