CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy's Sydney Adams (Trumbull, Conn.) has been named the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Volleyball Player of the Week for the second time this season, while teammate Maria Perez (San Juan, Puerto Rico) has been named the NAC Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week for the fourth time this season.
Adams helped lead the Mariners to a 3-0 week on their way to claiming the top seed in the upcoming NAC Tournament. The senior setter tallied 102 assists over 10 sets (10.20 a/s) to surpass 3,000 career assists and become the first MMA volleyball player to achieve the milestone. She also tallied 15 kills, nine digs, seven blocks, and four aces while hitting .353 on the week. In the team's straight-set win over Colby, she tallied 34 assists, five kills, four digs, and two blocks. In the final regular season NAC matchup against UMPI, she tallied 25 assists, five kills, three aces and a pair of blocks. In the final match of the week, she collected 43 assists, five kills, five digs, and three blocks in a 3-2 win over UMaine-Fort Kent.
Perez was impressive in the Mariners' 3-0 week, helping lead the team to the top seed and hosting rights for the upcoming NAC Championship Tournament. The senior libero totaled 57 digs (5.70 d/s) and added 10 assists, a kill, and an ace. She tallied 14 digs (4.67 d/s) in the team's 3-0 win over Colby, and stretched for 19 digs (6.33 d/s) against UMaine-Presque Isle. In the final game of the regular season against UMaine-Fort Kent, Perez notched 24 digs (6.00 d/s).
