BANGOR, Maine –Jessica Faltings placed eighth and Caroline Martin 11th, but Maine Maritime finished third among the three scoring teams at the Husson Harrier Classic. Husson finished in first place, sweeping the top four spots. Maine-Farmington finished second.
Faltings ran the five-kilometer course at Saxl Park in 24:39.20 for the eighth place finish. She was approximately four-and-a-half minutes behind the race champion, Husson's Chrissy Larrabee, who set the standard at 20:04.62. Her teammate, Alicia Palmer crossed 20.20 seconds later. The Mariners' Martin logged a 25:32.23 for 11th.
Elin Sonesson was the next Mariner across the line placing 22nd in the field of 42 finishers. She posted a 28:12.01. First-year Kristine Mehuren placed 30th in 32:30.35, with classmate Ellie Perkins crossing 23 seconds later for 32nd place. Junior Haley Eckert placed 35th in her first collegiate cross country race. She clocked in at 33:11.65.
Freshman Olivia Burke rounded out the Mariners' scoring contingent with a 35:33.00, good for 37th place.
Maine Maritime races at the Bowdoin Invitational next Saturday.
