WHITINGHAM, Vt. – Maine Maritime Academy Women's Cross Country placed ninth at the NAC Championships on Sunday held in Castleton.
The Mariners were led by Caroline Martin (Scarborough, Maine) who placed 50th among the 87 runners with a time of 25:16. Kristine Mehuren (Searsmont, Maine) and Hannah Page (Hutchinson, Kan.) finished back-to-back in 67th and 68th place respectively, while Ellie Perkins (Kennebunk, Maine) placed 74th and Elin Sonesson (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) finished 76th.
Colby-Sawyer College claimed the 2014 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Women's Cross Country Championship after scoring 38 points with four runners in the top ten. The 5k championship race included 87 total runners, representing 10 schools.
New England College sophomore Abby Shafer took first, as she completed the championship race in 19:48, 40 seconds faster than the next student-athlete. Husson sophomore Chrissy Larrabee took second (20:28), while Eagle teammate Alecia Palmer placed third with a time of 20:41.
Maine Maritime will prepare for the ECAC Championships this Saturday, November 8th at Westfield State University.
