CASTINE, Maine – The Mariners boasted their largest roster in program history this season, and will travel six to the NCAA New England Cross Country Championships.
Olivia Osborne (Newcastle, Maine), Kristine Mehuren (Searsmont, Maine), Olivia Burke (China, Maine), Ellie Perkins (Kennebyunk, Maine), Sarah Markwood (Montville, N.J.) and Alice Stenquist (Bath, Maine) will compete for the Mariners.
The race will serve as Osborne's "Senior Day" as it is her final race with Maine Maritime Academy.
The women's 6k course is a tough one, containing multiple twists and turns through fields, woods, and a challenging hill, which will make it a test of willpower and strength for the racers as much as it will be a competition for place.
Given that this race will decide the teams that will get the chance to compete at the NCAA Championships to be held at the Golf Center at Kings Island on November 22 in Mason, Ohio, the atmosphere will be highly competitive, with every team pulling out all the stops to try and secure a spot.
The forecast for this Saturday projects a chilly day with a high of 37 degrees, which will add yet another element of challenge to the race.
The women's race will start at 12:30 PM, following the men's race at 11:00 AM.
