James Guides Maine Maritime at Mariner Invitational

BELFAST, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy women's cross country finished fifth out of five teams at Saturday's Mariner Invitational at the Troy Howard Middle School in Belfast, Maine.

Sierra James (Campton, N.H.) led the Mariners with a fourth place finish among the 48 runners, finishing the 5K course in a time of 22:07.1. Freshman Joanna Howard (Eliot, Maine) finished 19th overall with a time of 24:25.3 and Abigail L'Abbé (Topsham, Maine) finished just behind in 20th with a time of 24:39.8. Alex Allen (Easton, Maine) came in 26th (25:30.4) and Catherine Cornell (Portland, Maine) rounded out the top five finishers for the Mariners in 30th place with a time of 29:44.4.

Husson University captured the team victory with a score of 42 placing two runners in the top five, while UMaine-Presque Isle's Vanentine Degiovanni finished first overall with a time of 20:54.7.

The Mariners return to action next Saturday, September 15 at the UMass.-Dartmouth Invitational.
