James and Allen Earn All-Conference Accolades

CASTINE, Maine -- Maine Maritime Academy's Sierra James (Campton, N.H.) has been named the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Women's Cross Country Senior Scholar Athlete of the Year along with earning NAC Second Team honors, while teammate Alex Allen (Easton, Maine) has been named to the NAC Women's Cross Country Sportsmanship Team.

James led the Mariners in every race this season including at the NAC Championship, where her ninth place finish earned her Second Team accolades. A marine biology major with a 3.59 GPA, James has been on the Dean's List every semester while enrolled at Maine Maritime. She was recently recognized as a Henry A. Sheel Scholar, which recognizes students at the Academy who best exemplify intellectual curiosity and achievement. James is a four-year member of the women's cross country team who has distinguished herself as a member of the NAC Sportsmanship Team (2016) as well as the NAC All-Academic Team (2016, 2017). She has been the top runner for Maine Maritime for the past two years, this year receiving the NAC Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week on October 16th. A two-sport athlete, James is also a member of the Maine Maritime Academy women's lacrosse team. James is the Treasurer for the Class of 2019 and has helped to organize various class activities, including the Junior Ring Dance. After graduation, James plans to attend veterinary school.

Allen, a team captain and senior Marine Science major, was a consistent top five finisher for the Mariners all season. The NAC Women's Cross Country Sportsmanship Team is reserved for those who have distinguished themselves through demonstrated acts of sportsmanship and ethical behavior.The honorees are individuals who have positively affected the sport culture and environment and whose behavior clearly demonstrates sportsmanship and integrity.
