King also produced the 2018 NAC Women's Cross Country Senior Scholar Athlete of the Year, Sierra James.
King guided the men's team to a second place finish in the North Atlantic Conference championship in 2018 and the women's team to a fifth place. The men's and women's team also received USTFCAA All-Academic honors. The honor marks is the seventh-consecutive year that a Maine Maritime Academy Cross Country Team has been named to the USTFCCCA Division III All-Academic Team, but just the first time in program history that both the men's and women's teams have earned a spot on the team in the same season.
King grew up in Orono, Maine and began his running career on the Orono High School Cross Country Team. Ryan ran and competed at Saint Anselm College in Manchester, New Hampshire. He graduated from Saint Anselm in 1991 with a Bachelor of Arts in History.
Since college, he has participated in competitive running for more than two decades. Highlights of his running career included finishing in the top ten at the Mount Desert Island Marathon in 2007 and running the Boston Marathon three times.
